Three New York residents were facing drug charges after an Aug. 10 raid uncovered an alleged meth lab. The raid occurred at about 5 a.m. at a residence located in the 1700 block of Canal Road in Oneida.

During the raid, specially trained deputies reportedly discovered what was thought to be an active meth lab. One person was removed from this area of the home. About 9.33 ounces of meth was recovered from the home, which had an estimated street value of over $26,000. The road near the home was closed for several hours for safety purposes.

The three individuals who were taken into custody were identified as a 55-year-old Oneida man, a 33-year-old Oneida man and a 30-year-old Syracuse woman. The man was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine. The younger man was facing similar charges. The woman was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree. She was given an appearance ticket while the other two remained in the county jail without bail.

In the state of New York, those accused of felony drug crimes could face serious punishments, including a lengthy prison sentence. If individuals are accused of manufacturing drugs, the potential legal consequences can be even more severe. However, there are certain defense strategies that can be used to reduce the charges or have the charges dismissed altogether. This is particularly true if a criminal defense attorney shows evidence that authorities planted the drugs or made mistakes when collecting evidence or when taking the defendant into custody.
