In New York, a BBQ fork- and knife-wielding man is facing harassment, robbery and grand larceny charges after allegedly robbing a livery driver in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood on Aug. 31. According to prosecutors, the 19-year-old passenger relieved the cabbie of his debit card, cell phone and keys before allegedly carjacking the 41-year-old man’s 2006 Lincoln Town Car. Sources indicate that the incident took place in the vicinity of an apartment building on Stagg Walk shortly after 5:30 a.m.

The man also allegedly stiffed the driver out of a $40 fare. Authorities say that on the morning of the incident, the driver transported two passengers from Corona to Williamsburg. After dropping the first man off on Manhattan Avenue, the driver took the second to Stagg Walk, where he was invited to follow the charged man upstairs to his grandmother’s apartment in order to collect the fare. According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, the younger man then pulled the fork and the knife.

The Town Car was later recovered, and the man was taken into police custody on Sept. 2. Bail was set at $2,500, and he is being held at Rikers Island pending his next court date on Sept. 8.

New York residents who are facing similar charges may find it beneficial to seek help from an attorney who has criminal defense experience. Depending upon the circumstances, legal counsel can begin to construct a strategy to combat the allegations to be used before or at trial. In some cases, it may be advisable to negotiate a plea agreement with the prosecutor.
