Woman charged with possessing LSD and other drugs

The New York State Police charged a Jordan woman with the possession of LSD and other drugs during a traffic stop in Sullivan County. The incident occurred on Oct. 16 on State Route 17.

According to the New York State Police, officers received a report of a suspicious car on State Route 17. They then stopped the 34-year-old woman's vehicle. During the stop, police reportedly found 332 hits of LSD, ecstasy and marijuana. She was taken into custody.

The woman was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. The woman is also facing several misdemeanor offenses, including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second degree and criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree. She appeared in court and was sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

People who are facing allegations of drug crimes may face severe penalties if they are convicted as charged. When they have enough drugs in their possession to reasonably believe that they possessed the drugs with the intent to sell them, the penalties may be even harsher. People who are convicted may face years in prison. They might want to get help from a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible after they have been charged. There could be a variety of strategies that an attorney could employ in an attempt to combat the allegations. If the drugs were found after the defendant's car was pulled over, for example, an attorney could question whether the required reasonable suspicion existed to make the traffic stop.
